SUBS API 7-1

Bit sub

A bit sub is one that is used just above the bit and serves as a crossover between the drill collar connections and the bit connection, and it also houses the float valve.

Circulating sub

A downhole tool typically used with motors or assemblies that restrict the allowable fluid-circulation rates. When operated, the circulation sub allows a higher circulation rate to be established by opening a path to the annulus in the top section of the tool string. This is especially useful in applications such as drilling in slim-diameter wells, where a higher circulation rate may be necessary to effect good cuttings transport and hole cleaning before the string is retrieved.

Lifting sub

A short drill string component that is temporarily connected to the top of a tool assembly that is to be lifted vertically, such as when running or retrieving a tool string. Manufactured from alloy steel. All lifting subs are compliant with API standard. A lift sub enables the safe, effective, and efficient handling of straight OD tubular such as drill collars, shock tools, directional equipment jars, and other tools using the drill pipe elevators. Lift subs are simply screwed to the top of the tool and feature an elevator groove.

Swivel sub

A Swivel is a mechanical device used on a drilling rig that hangs directly under the traveling block and directly above the kelly drive, that provides the ability for the kelly (and subsequently the drill string) to rotate while allowing the traveling block to remain in a stationary rotational position (yet allow vertical movement up and down the derrick) while simultaneously allowing the introduction of drilling fluid into the drill string. It is designed to allow rotation of the drillstring beneath it conveying high volumes of high-pressure drilling mud between the rig's circulation system and the drillstring

Lift nubbins/lifting cap

All GulfTek Lift Caps / Nubbins are manufactured from a single piece of premium steel to ensure the integrity of the lifting accessory, this reduces the risk of failure that can be an issue with cast lift caps. Lift Nubbins are available in 3 - 10 tonne Safe Working Loads as standard, increased SWL’s available on request. All thread types available on request.

Pump in sub

A Pump-In-Sub/Flow-Tee is normally placed below the blowout preventer in a pressure control stack. It allows for bleeding off well fluids and gases and assists in the introduction of fluids to a well for well control purposes. It is also used to direct flow away from the pressure control stack

Test Cap Plug

Pressure test Caps & Plugs are available to meet the following criteria, Meet all safety standards regarding use of pressure testing equipments. Fit the connection to be tested. Ability to hold the required test pressure. Easy to install and remove. Withstand numerous make and break. Designed to prevent any change the dimensional characteristics of the connection after test. Will not damage the connection due to makeup and breakout.May be used with any type steel.

Non mag RSC Subs

Rotary Shouldered Connections (RSC). RSC's come in two sub-categories: API connections (American Petroleum Institute) Premium connections, API connections go under many names: Regular IF (Internal Flush) FH (Full Hole) NC (Numeric Connection). These are single shoulder connections: They only have one torque shoulder on both pin and box, Premium connections come in different shapes and sizes from the many manufacturers. Typical examples are: XT (Grant Prideco), DSTJ (Tenaris) Vam Eis (Vam) MT (DP Master). Most premium connections have a double shoulder. That means that they have an extra torque shoulder in the nose of the pin and in the bottom of the box. This provides a bigger shoulder area, thus allowing a higher makeup torque.

Side entry sub

All single and double side-entry subs are integral one-piece design tested to 1 1/2 times safe working pressure. Double side-entry subs are designed with a solid ID on one end made to pump through or pressure test.

Tubing, casing, Xovers, pup joints API 5CT

Crossovers

A crossover is used to connect such components to ensure well integrity and enable the circulation of material. The crossover acts as a service tool connecting two different tubular components or sections having same or different thread sizes or types.

Completion tools

Completion equipment are those items of equipment which are used to bring an oil well to the completion state so that first test production and later on commercial production can be started from it.

Pup joints

A Pup joint is short pipe length usually with threaded ends, and is used to adjust the length of the casing, tubing and are available in standard lengths of 2’ - 20' in 2' increments. It also can be ordered to match other drill pipe dimensions. Manufactured according to API 5CT using API monogrammed, seamless oil country tubing. Optional diameters, lengths, weights, and grades are available upon request.

Lift nubbins/lifting cap

API certified product with assured quality. Forging type products used for lifting pipes collars, with regular thread connection. lift nubbins offer the ultimate in thread protection when it comes to the lifting of drill collars. These certified lifting devices ensure safe handling of tubular products during manufacturing, shipping or at the rig site. Lift nubbins are manufactured from steel castings with heavy-duty bails suitable for picking up and laying down a drill collar with the catline. All of our drill stem subs are manufactured in accordance with API specifications

Test Cap Plug

Testing plugs / test caps are screwed at both ends of an accessory or assembly. They allow performing Hydro Test up to the MIYP of the part. Testing plugs are also known as test nubbins. Test fixture can be available for rental.

Accessories

Bit breakers

A heavy plate that fits in the rotary table and holds the drill bit while it is being made up in or broken out of the drill stem

Mule shoes

A Mule Shoe is a small tubing that is attached on the bottom of a drill string. The device guides the casing toward the centre of the hole and minimizes problems associated with hitting rock ledges or washouts in the wellbore as the casing is lowered into the well. The bottom part can be shaped differently depending.

Mandrels

A bar, shaft or spindle around which other components are arranged or assembled. includes specialised tubular components that are key parts of an assembly or system, such as a fracturing mandrel, gas-lift mandrel or packer mandrel.

Whipstock

A whipstock is a curved steel wedge which is put into the borehole to start off the drilling of a new branch, Whipstocks are sometimes used in controlled directional drilling, in straightening crooked boreholes, and in sidetracking to avoid unretrieved fish.

Collars API 7-1

Drill collar Mag & Non Mag

A drill collar is a thick tubular piece at the bottom of a drillpipe, which concentrates the weight on the rotating drill bit. The drill collar is used to concentrate a heavy mass near the lower end of the drill column.

Pony drill collar

Short drill collars are also called Pony Collar. They are commonly used in oilfield drilling engineering. They are used to increase WOB, prevent deviation, to avoid breaking the drilling tools and so on. A Short drill collar has thick walls and other characteristics to improve the rigidity of the drill.
